Are you new to screen printing and wondering which frame is best for you? Then you've come to the right place. For a clean, consistent print result, the screen printing frame is one of the most important tools of all. That's precisely why we recommend aluminum frames. However, if you already know you want a larger frame, for example, to produce A2 or even A1 prints, we recommend our wooden frames.
Why? Quite simply:
- Stability: Metal frames won't warp, even when cleaned or treated with chemicals frequently. This means your print will always remain accurate.
- Durability: Aluminum frames last virtually forever. While wooden frames can swell or warp over time, a metal frame remains dimensionally stable.
-
Precision: Our frames are machine-stretched with screen-printed mesh. This ensures the mesh sits perfectly taut—a crucial difference from hand-stretched wooden frames, which often exhibit minor irregularities.
You can choose from various sizes: Mini, A4, A3, or A2 – suitable for small DIY prints right up to larger designs. For beginners in textile printing, frames with a mesh count of 32T and above are ideal, as they allow sufficient ink to pass through the mesh onto the fabric. However, if you want to print on smooth, non-absorbent surfaces such as glass, metal, or plastic, you'll need finer meshes – around 120T or higher . This allows you to capture even the smallest details, fine lettering, or halftones in razor-sharp detail on your print.
Of course, you can also get started with wooden frames. But if you value a clean result and don't want to buy new material after just a few prints, aluminum or metal frames are a better choice. These frames are a real game-changer, especially for DIY fans who enjoy high-quality results.
In short:
- Wooden frames = cheap, sustainable, but also somewhat less precise
- Aluminum frame = durable, stable and perfect for repeated printing runs
- The choice of screen fineness (e.g. 43T, 54T, 120T) determines how much ink gets onto your material
This gives you the essential basics for choosing the right frame for your DIY project. It's best to start with a medium-sized, sturdy all-rounder made of aluminum (54T), and you'll quickly notice how easy and precise screen printing can be.
