PRO Scoop Coater for A4 and A3 Screen Printing Frames

This double-sided scoop coater for screen printing (35 cm total width) is used to apply photo emulsion evenly onto the screen mesh. The special feature of the PRO version is that it has two different edges, allowing the emulsion to be applied in different thicknesses. This is particularly useful for printing on black and dark textiles, as it allows for a thicker stencil, which in turn enables a heavier ink deposit.

The sharp edge is used for a standard coat thickness, while the rounded edge is used for a thicker emulsion layer.

To use it, pour the photo emulsion into the coater and then apply it to both sides of the screen mesh. Be sure to perform this step under yellow safelight conditions. Daylight or artificial light sources can prematurely expose the emulsion, rendering it unusable.

When should you use the sharp vs. the rounded edge of the scoop coater?

As a general rule, you use the sharp edge for all standard coatings for textile printing or screen printing on paper.

You use the rounded edge when you want to apply a very thick layer of emulsion. This is useful, for example, when printing white ink onto a black T-shirt. The thicker emulsion layer makes it possible to push more ink through the screen. Note that a thicker emulsion layer may require different exposure times. To find the correct time, simply perform a step exposure test by exposing different areas of the screen for varying amounts of time.

This scoop coater is perfectly suited for our DIN A3 screen printing frames (portrait orientation) and also for our DIN A4 frames (landscape orientation).

The coater is delivered with two black or white rubber protective caps. Please remove these before use.
